Blokart sailing rules
The table below summarises the key blokart sailing rules. The rules assist with preventing altercations and collisions. For the full set of rules please go to Edition10 IBRA Blokart Sailing Rules.
Edition 10 of the IBRA rules came into effect from 1 January 2026, and will remain in effect until end of December 2027, after which a new edition of the rules may be published, or this edition extended. Only minor changes and corrections have been made to these rules from Edition 9. Significant edits are highlighted by a line in the left-hand margin.
It is important to note that some sailing venues may have sailing rules that differ from the IBRA rules. For example, when sailing at AFMNZ Wigram, the downwind ‘kart is required to give way to the upwind ‘kart even if this means that the downwind ‘kart needs to ‘go to grass‘ (that is, sail off the sealed surface and onto the grass to avoid the upwind ‘kart).
