New Zealand Blokart Association Incorporated
On joining the Canterbury Blokart Club Inc. you automatically become affiliated to the NZBAI. This is a compulsory requirement and is beneficial for all parties involved.
The NZBAI was formed in 2003 to promote and develop the sport of blokart sailing in New Zealand. The primary purpose of the NZBAI is to:
- act as the national body for the administration, promotion, and development of the recreational and competitive use of the Blokart
- promote and control blokart sailing activities in competitions
- publish and enforce the rules for New Zealand blokart competitions
- develop the sport of blokart racing through guest speakers, social functions, public displays and events, promotions and advertising
- encourage the formation of regional clubs and provide a framework for clubs to liaise with each other
- liaise with the International Blokart Racing Association on behalf of the clubs in New Zealand
The NZBAI is run by volunteers elected onto the committee at the AGM, held each year in August. The NZBAI is a registered incorporated society, no. 1246824. You can view NZBAI registration details here by inserting no. 1246824. A copy of the NZBAI constitution is available here. The NZBAI is a founding member of the International Blokart Racing Association (IBRA).

International Blokart Racing Association
IBRA has six founding members; New Zealand Blokart Association Inc. (NZBAI), Blokart International Ltd. (BIL), Australian Blokart Association (ABA), North American Blokart Sailing Association (NABSA), Japan Blokart Association (JBA), and European Blokart Association (EBA). IBRA’s objectives include encouraging and facilitating world-class blokart racing events using internationally agreed rules, and maintaining a set of international equipment and sailing rules. IBRA racing rules can be read here. NZ uses a modified version of the IBRA sailing rules (the NZBAI rules) at all events including club sailing days. Some clubs have minor modifications to the NZBAI rules due to factors specific to their sailing location.
